Meet the Golden Bulls Team Teachers!
Mrs. Burns
Hello Golden Bulls! I am looking forward to another fabulous year here at GMS. :) I was born and raised in West Virginia. In 2006, I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, Science and Speech, from Marshall University (Go Herd!) in Huntington, West Virginia. I graduated from The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, in 2015 with my Master's Degree in Secondary Science Education. In August 2016, I received my licensure for Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) from Duke University. I have 17 years of teaching experience and am getting ready to start year 18 Wow! Where has the time gone!?!? I taught a year and a half in West Virginia before moving to North Carolina with my husband, Paul, where I have taught for the last fifteen and a half years, FOURTEEN of which have been at Githens. I wear many hats at Githens, including 7th Science PLC chair, Science Department Chair, and SIT Co-Chair. I am excited to be starting my Fifteenth year at GMS! |
Mr. Walsh
My name is James Walsh and I am happy and looking forward to being your child’s Social Studies teacher on the Golden Bulls Team :-) We will start off the year with a quick review to see what we have learned and/or have forgotten (or maybe some gaps in our knowledge). The students and I will be observing, and hopefully interacting with the various people, times, and places between 1500 and the modern world. The 1st unit for 7th grade is Geography (5 themes and map skills) and Culture (what is acceptable). |
Mrs. Nelson
Welcome back, scholars! I am your ELA Teacher, Mrs. Nelson! I am from Rocky Mount, N.C., and I spent 3 years teaching ELA in Houston, TX (Go Rockets) before coming to Githens last year. Before teaching in Houston, I spent more than 7 years as a Reading Resource Teacher here in North Carolina. I returned home to North Carolina to be closer to family and friends and to foster your growth during YOUR BEST SCHOOL YEAR YET! I earned my bachelor's degree from East Carolina University. After more than 11 years in the classroom, I am happy to be a part of your learning community this year. Welcome to the most dedicated team at the most wonderful school in DPS! “Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary.” ~Jim Rohn Together, we will make this an EXTRAordinary year!
